About the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board

The Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board is the governing body of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, located in Plainfield, Indiana. The Board is comprised of 17 members, who have been appointed by the governor. The board sets the requirements and criteria for the basic training of law enforcement officers throughout the State of Indiana, which became mandatory in 1972. 

 

Role Overview

You will serve as an Auto Mechanic for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) fleet responsible for automotive maintenance and repair of state-owned vehicles. You will report to the Emergency Vehicle Operation Center Law Enforcement Training Specialist 3.  This position is temporary; employment will range from 3 to 6 months.

 

Requirements :

  • Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, and equipment used in automotive repair
  • Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repair
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to use diagnostic equipment and suspension alignment equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate safety precautions
  • Ability to select and requisition repair parts
  • Must be able to display technical expertise
  • Must be able to acquire information, test, and troubleshoot automotive malfunctions
  • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a high-stress environment

 

Duties

  • Orders and picks up parts and automotive equipment needed to repair vehicles

  • Diagnoses automotive malfunctions

  • Performs minor automotive body repair

  • Records work orders showing the extent of repair work performed on each vehicle

  • Assists in engine rebuilding of vehicles, tractors, trucks, lawnmowers, etc.

  • Completes engine, transmission, or front suspension overhaul

  • Replaces or repairs major engine, transmission, differential, suspension, or electrical components

  • Adds and drains oil from crankcase and refills with new oil

  • Installs automotive accessories such as oil and air filters, windshield wiper blades, fan belts and batteries

  • Assists in snow removal on an as-needed basis

  • Other duties as assigned

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
