Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Part-time experienced Bookkeeper is needed for St. Joseph Parish to work 16 hours per week.

The Bookkeeper is responsible for preparing, processing, recording, and maintaining the financial records and documents for the church, school and cemetery following standard accounting procedures. They will provide various business management support services as needed, including parish capital projects, budget preparation, and financial reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Daily accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, recording of revenue, etc.
  • Process payroll, benefits and maintain employee records.
  • Prepare annual budget and investigate actual vs. budget variances in collaboration with the Mission Support Director.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Must have availability to attend evening Parish Finance Council meetings when necessary.
  • Position coordinates business activities regarding human resources, insurance, capital projects, etc.
  • Invoicing tuition and maintaining St. Joseph School financials using FACTS in collaboration with other accounting software as required.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Moderator and/or Mission Support Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • The applicant is required to be an actively practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and accept all Church teachings and morals.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of Sage Intacct is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines as required.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Works collaboratively with church leaders and lay staff.
  • Must be a self-starter and perform duties independently.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's Degree or higher in accounting preferred.
  • Three years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience required.
  • Prior Catholic parish bookkeeping experience is a plus.
