Job Description

We’re looking for a talented and experienced copywriter to be part of a fast-growing, Atlanta-based agency that specializes in home improvement clients. The copywriter is part of the agency’s voice and plays a key role in ensuring that messaging and creative are smart and effective for accomplishing agency and client goals. This person will do the day-to-day writing of social media posts, blogs, articles, etc. for a few of our biggest clients, as well as help with any overall messaging and tone of voice for other various marketing strategies. You’ll drive the content creation for each campaign and ensure the creative work not only fits the brand, but is also strategically focused, all while working collaboratively across multifunctional teams.

A good copywriter will be a strategic, critical thinker and researcher more in tune with the consumer than the client. You will plan, think and write with their point of view in mind. In short, executives, account directors and managers know what the client wants (or needs), but the copywriter knows what the consumer wants. While your focus will be on digital content, there will also be print-based work that includes packaging, POP, signage, etc. You won’t just do work – you’ll impact our clients’ businesses and brands at a high, strategic level. You must be agile and creative with outstanding attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and craft unique copy from a big-picture perspective that both informs and engages the reader, balancing storytelling with statistics and fact-driven prose; examples of things you’ll be working on include email blasts, brochures, packaging, signage, Google Ads, URL content, social media campaigns, video outlines/scripts, blogs, podcasts, etc.
  • Work alongside the account managers, art directors, designers and/or creative director to conceive, develop, and produce catchy and persuasive advertising copy with a consistent brand voice and high-level messaging, positioning, headlines, content, etc.
  • Help drive the overall content strategy of creative campaigns at a conceptual and executional level with minimal guidance, including following any applicable brand standards
  • Set the communication strategy for advertising campaigns and constantly revise/change that strategy as needed from the client without sacrificing creative integrity
  • Think critically and lead strategic brainstorming sessions to ground creative decisions in the directions that are established by the client
  • Provide the creative team with a clearly defined creative brief that contains concise information on the product, audience and strategy so that they can develop creative ideas applicable to the media channels that will promote the idea most effectively
  • Present ideas internally to peers and externally to clients, providing rationale for choices
  • Be able to switch quickly and comfortably between multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and be willing to jump in and help out other individuals/teams when needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in copywriting required
  • Agency experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in brand strategy planning and marketing program creation preferred; experience can be either from the client or agency side
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications or English preferred
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills with a strong command of the English language; ability to communicate ideas to clients, vendors, team members, and others in a clear and concise manner
  • Highly creative and a rigorous, logical thinker to be able to think around problems
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, technical, multitasking and problem-solving skills; a good memory for facts and figures is a definite plus
  • Competitive insights expertise to be able to help create and define client marketing messaging around differentiation and marketplace advantage
  • Ability to identify industry trends early on and lead the agency and clients in being early to market in new and meaningful marketing trends
  • Ongoing, proactive, meaningful recommendations for clients on opportunities to enhance marketing advertising efforts to grow sales, market share, preference, loyalty, etc.
  • Strong background in writing detailed creative briefs
  • Full awareness of creative processes and techniques, including digital platforms
  • Strong proficiency with Word and Excel and general understanding of how graphic software (PDFs, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) works
  • High standards of integrity and confidentiality; be able to adjust to multiple demands while achieving challenging objectives with intelligence and analysis
  • Eagerness to pursue additional learning and self-development
