Job Description

Preferred Education and Experience: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or other related field. Experience as a manager or supervisor. Experience with wastewater treatment and collection systems. Will consider candidates experienced in pulp and paper, chemical manufacturing and other manufacturing that includes process water pretreatment.

I. Job Summary
Supervises employees and operations of wastewater treatment plant.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Manages personnel and daily operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and collection system to maintain optimum disposal flow. Treatment facility includes physical, chemical and biological treatment of landfill leachate with Membrane Bioreactor and Reverse Osmosis technologies.
  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Fulfills purchasing function, including purchasing supplies, maintaining purchase order log, and reviewing P-card transactions, for the treatment plant.
  • Assembles and analyzes data. Tests and monitors results and creates appropriate reports.
  • Serves as a liaison between plant and vendors, contractors, management, security, and others.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the department including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes:

  • Direct supervision of approximately, 5 full-time employees including: waste water treatment operators. 

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience
  • Education: High school diploma or GED (accredited).
  • Experience: Four (4) years of previous experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Preferred: State Wastewater Operator Certificate (Class D-1 or higher).

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Previous plant supervisor experience may be required.
