Position Overview

Dr. Joseph Auteri has joined the Capital Health team and alongside the existing excellent CT surgical physicians, Dr. Pasquale Luciano and Dr. Fredric Seinfeld, and will launch a new approach to cardiovascular care.

The CHS team has also added new physicians to their thoracic surgery program and the interventional cardiology team to create a Heart and Vascular Institute. Alongside with the addition of new cardiac procedural space will allow CHS to expand their already successful cardiac program to reach more of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania population.

PA/NPs in this setting are offered a unique and consistently excellent learning environment. You will be a member of the surgical house staff at Capital Health’s Regional Medical Center, providing 24/7 coverage for the CT surgical patients. This means there’s no standing in line behind MD surgical residents to first-assist in the OR. You’ll also participate in all aspects of perioperative care. You are expected to think on your feet and present findings with clarity, receiving supportive guidance from the other CT team members. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with MDs in decision-making while honing your problem solving skills. The CHS program will expose you to experiences and procedural opportunities beyond the typical community hospital setting. Our program currently supports PA-driven endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and welcomes experienced candidates and those looking to gain this valuable experience through robust on the job training as part of their skillset.

• Serve as First Assist during both cardiac and vascular surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and safety.
• Collaborate with attending physicians to provide exceptional patient care on the General Floor and in the Surgical ICU; as well as the ability to independently evaluate all inpatient and Emergency Room consultations.
• Manage and monitor patients in the Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit who have recently received either open surgical or percutaneous coronary intervention in collaboration with critical care attendings and physician colleagues from the general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology teams.
• Contribute to patient education and provide support to patients and their families.

Location : Trenton, NJ

Work Schedule : Two 24-hour shifts per week, no call schedule or outpatient responsibilities.

Physician Assistant

• Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program, approved by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• One-year experience working with primary care management or acute care preferred.
• NJ Physician Assistant License.
• Experience in cardiothoracic surgery required.

Nurse Practitioner

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and Master's degree in advanced clinical practice or graduate of post Master's certificate program for nurse practitioner.
• One-year experience working with primary care management or acute care preferred.
• Advanced Practice Nurse – NJ License
• Experience in cardiothoracic surgery required.

Other Mandatory Qualifications

• Active Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience as surgical first assist and/or strong background in surgical critical care.
• Proficiency in Endoscopic Vein Harvest (EVH) and open vein harvest techniques.
• Proficiency in placement of Central Venous Catheters, Arterial catheters, and Chest Tubes.
