Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
In collaboration with a licensed physician, the mid-level practitioner performs services in the practice of medicine, specific to the Hospitalist Program. The primary responsibility is to extend clinical services in the delivery of health care to patients while hospitalized. The practitioner will also perform administrative duties related to the practice of medicine.
Job Specific:
Works closely with all hospital management personnel, physicians, all hospital staff members, patients, and visitors. (EF)
Must be able to work effectively with others, possessing tact, discretion and diplomacy. (EF)
Complete and maintain adequate and proper medical records with respect to all patients examined or treated in accordance with all legal, accreditation, regulatory and third party payer requirements. (EF)
Comply with all Medical Staff Bylaws and policies, and Hospital Bylaws, policies, rules and regulations, as such currently exist or are hereinafter amended. (EF)
Participate as a provider of medical services with third party payers, including any HMO and/or PPO, with which Hospital contracts. (EF)
Comply with all applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements. (EF)
Conduct yourself at all times in manner consistent with and promoting the Hospital’s mission and values. (EF)
Maintain excellent working relationships and communication with the other Hospitalist Team Members. (EF)
Must demonstrate leadership and teaching ability (EF)
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: This position can be filled by a Nurse Practitioner possessing a registered nurse license, a Master of Science in Nursing degree and be certified by an agency approved by the ANA.
Required: This position can be filled by a Physician Assistant graduate of a training program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Prior experience in a health care setting.
Preferred: Prior experience in hospital medicine.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Required: Mid-Level Providers will diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions and emphasize health promotion and disease prevention. Their services include, but are not limited to: ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests; prescribing pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies; and teaching and counseling. They practice autonomously and in collaboration with other health care professionals to manage patients’ health needs.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Required: Maintain current licensure including: registered Texas license (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), DEA and DPS registrations, appropriate eligibility or certification under applicable specialty Board. Current CPR and ACLS certifications. CME as required.
