Position Overview :

Responsible for the efficient operations of the pharmacy; ensures standards of quality, productivity, and performance in accordance with San Francisco AIDS Foundation policy and procedures and the requirements of state and federal regulatory agencies. Uses critical thinking skills, tact, and discretion to oversee and direct the pharmacy and its staff. Schedules, staffs, trains, coaches, counsels, and reviews the pharmacy personnel during daily activities, continually developing the employees. Works in conjunction with various levels of management to resolve issues. Manages operations of the pharmacy, including buying and maintaining the equipment and supplies. Monitors pharmacy performance and oversees and participates in pharmacist duties, including dispensing appropriate prescription medication.

Counsels members on proper medication usage. Implements and upholds proper pharmacy and general safety procedures and standards. Assists patients/clients while providing a high level of service. Accurately reviews and interprets medication orders; prepares accurate and complete patient profile; reviews profiles for correct drug, dosage, and route of administration; ensures that a drug duplication or drug-drug interaction does not exists; ensures that patient is not allergic to any medication prescribed. Efficiently performs other professional pharmacy duties including the safe procurement, preparation, labeling, distribution, and control of all drugs. Actively supports and participates in pharmacy activities recommended by accreditation agencies and regulatory agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

  • Regulatory Compliance : Verifies that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and technician licenses/registrations are current unrestricted and valid as required by state, federal, and Company guidelines. Ensure all compliance tasks and requirements for the pharmacy and clinic dispensary are up to date.
  • Dispensing Medications : Verifying prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and legality, and dispensing medications to patients while providing counseling on their proper use, potential side effects, and adherence.
  • Inventory Management : Managing inventory levels of medications and supplies, ordering new stock as needed, and monitoring expiration dates to prevent waste.
  • Quality Assurance : Implementing quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy and safety of medications dispensed, including conducting regular audits and maintaining documentation.
  • Pharmacy Operations : Overseeing day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, including maintaining cleanliness and organization, managing workflow, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Mentorship and Development : Provide mentorship to pharmacy staff, fostering professional growth and development through regular feedback, performance reviews, and identifying training opportunities.
  • Conflict Resolution : In partnership with People & Culture address interpersonal conflicts and issues within the team promptly and effectively, ensuring a harmonious work environment.
  • Team Leadership : Involve the team in decision-making processes where appropriate, fostering a sense of ownership and collaboration. Lead the team effectively during times of crisis, providing clear direction and support to navigate challenges. Ensure coordination and collaboration within Strut and across the organization.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITTIES:

  • Staying informed about developments in pharmacy practice, including new medications, regulations, and technologies, and participating in continuing education activities to maintain licensure and enhance professional knowledge.
  • Periodic consultations with practitioners in the field, including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, to promote interdisciplinary care and effective communication.

  • Maintain a deepened commitment to addressing the political, social, and environmental conditions that create health disparities.
  • The pharmacist in charge/pharmacy manager will assume the role of consulting pharmacist for the clinic dispensary.
    • The consulting pharmacist will perform their duties in collaboration with Magnet Clinic's Medical Director and Senior Director of Clinical Services to ensure that the policies and procedures of the clinic's drug distribution service, relative to inventories, security procedures, training, protocol development, record keeping, packaging, labeling, dispensing, and patient consultation are consistent with the promotion and protection of the health and safety of the public.
    • The consulting pharmacist shall be required to visit the clinic at least quarterly and shall certify in writing quarterly that the clinic is, or is not, operating in compliance with the requirements.
    • Before July 1 of every odd-numbered year, the consulting pharmacist shall complete a Surgical Clinic Self-Assessment Form as determined by the board as a means to promote compliance through self-examination and education.

Essential Qualifications :

  • Pharmacist license current and in good standing in the state of California Required
  • Excellent Communication Skills : Able to foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure the timely and accurate dispensing of specialty medications.
  • Leadership Skills : Strong leadership skills with experience in team management, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : Familiarity with CA Board of Pharmacy and DEA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Crisis Management : Ability to lead effectively during times of crisis and change.
  • Advocacy : A passion for health justice and a commitment to addressing health disparities.
  • Cultural Competency : Deep understanding of the communities served, with a commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Supervision : Position will oversee the recruitment and hiring of pharmacy technician(s) and floating, on-call pharmacist.

  • Proficiency in using office equipment like computers, copiers, and phones.
  • Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.   • When in-person, this position is located 470 Castro Street, San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job.
  • This position is expected to work a 4-day-a-week/10-hour day schedule on-site.
  • Travel expenses for commuting to SFAF offices are not reimbursable.
  • Role may include evening and weekend coverage.

Education and Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in practice of pharmacy.
  • Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy management experience.
  • BS-Pharm or PharmD degree from an accredited university.
  • AAHIVP certification, or willingness to become certified within 12 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the 340b program, or willingness to complete 340b University within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience working with priority populations including the LGBTQ+ Community, People living with HIV/AIDS, POC, and other marginalized communities highly valued.

Work Environment :

  • This is fully in person role at our Strut Sexual Health Clinic (470 Castro St) with travel to other locations as determined in the sole discretion of SFAF.
