Job Description The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer to join our Building and Fire Protection Engineering team in West Milton, NY!
As a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer, the successful candidate will:
- Review fire suppression system modifications and new designs for code compliance and system compatibility.
- Provide field engineering support in construction to support system acceptance, commissioning and building occupancy.
- Provide engineering support to the operators of the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Programs to include water based and gaseous suppression, fire alarm/detection and passive systems.
- Train and obtain qualifications in the analysis of fire hazards and mitigation of fire damage through proper facility design, and installation/maintenance of fire systems.
- Resolve fire code deficiencies and upgrade suppression systems and equipment to be more effective.
- Perform engineering evaluations and collaborate on projects related to fire protection of facilities.
- Perform code evaluations to support site operations.
This position will require the Engineer to interact with multiple organizations, project execution teams, systems engineers, building owners and code officials to ensure code compliant design and construction. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a self-directed environment and mentoring more junior engineers within the team.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience
Preferred Skills - Working knowledge of the Building Code set for New York State and associated reference standards
- Working knowledge of the design and maintenance of fire protection systems
- Working knowledge of fire and life safety code reviews and fire hazard analysis
- Working knowledge with applicable NFPA standards
- Experience with the development of engineering documents (e.g. engineering analysis, technical specifications, functional requirements, cost estimates, maintenance requirements, engineering drawings, etc.

Pay Range $92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually
