Job Description
Bloomberg News is seeking a reporter to cover the ever-changing insurance industry in the US as part of its investing team. From Berkshire Hathaway to MetLife to Allstate, insurers are a force in individual consumers' lives as well as major players in markets across the globe. Insurers are becoming increasingly intertwined with asset managers, whether as stock-picking giants, owners of influential investment management units, buyers of private debt, or acquisition targets of private equity firms seeking stable capital. This role sits within one of the most high-profile teams in the newsroom, serving our core subscribers to the Terminal, website and magazines.
We're looking for a dynamic reporter who is eager to break news on the intersection of the insurance industry and private capital - and then quickly follow those scoops with the kind of in-depth reporting that takes readers behind the scenes and puts into context the ways in which insurers and asset managers are intersecting. We also want a reporter who can unpack the big-picture trends in the industry - the risks and opportunities presented by private equity ownership, how firms are restructuring and repackaging risk, the navigation of a web of disparate regulators, and how they're investing their capital accounts.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: We're looking for an ambitious reporter with a strong track record of developing high-level sources and breaking news, who can also generate bigger features and investigative pieces that have global impact. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative self-starter with experience covering investment firms and their clients, who will feel comfortable working across various platforms within Bloomberg including TV, radio, podcasts and live events.
WE'LL TRUST YOU TO: - Break news
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with sources including C-suite executives, regulators and other key players in the insurance ecosystem
- Work closely with other reporters on the investing team and across the newsroom to produce scoops and features on the beat
YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE: - Minimum of four years reporting and experience of finance and breaking news
- A proven ability to build sourcing
- Sound news judgment and a talent for looking beyond the obvious story
- A willingness to work well within a team and with others across the newsroom
Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know what the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
