If you are an innovative researcher eager to contribute to the forefront of neuroengineering and collaborate within a dynamic academic community, we invite you to join us at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a distinguished track record of research and scholarship in neuroengineering or neural engineering. Areas of research interest include but are not limited to:

  • NP engineering, NP imaging, and NP immune modulation
  • Neural signal and image analysis employing cutting-edge methodologies such as machine learning and deep learning.
  • Invasive and noninvasive neuromodulation techniques such as deep brain stimulation (DBS), focused ultrasound (FUS), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
  • Development of brain-computer interfaces for seamless integration of devices with the human nervous system.
  • Computational modeling of receptor-ligand interactions within the brain.
  • Anatomical and functional mapping utilizing electrode arrays, EEG, ECoG, iEEG, MEG, and MRI.
The Schools of Engineering and Medicine are strategically positioned on the same campus in Birmingham, facilitating seamless collaboration. Our neuroengineering research thrives on extensive partnerships with the Departments of Neurology, Neurobiology, and Neurosurgery, alongside the Comprehensive Neuroscience Center. UAB has recently inaugurated a University-wide Consortium for Neuroengineering and Brain-Computer Interfaces , along with a cross-school Ph.D. program in Neuroengineering , underlining our commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.

Clinical Strengths : Our clinical expertise spans various neurological domains, including stroke and vascular disease, movement disorders, memory disorders, epilepsy, neuroimmunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular disease, and neuro-oncology. Noteworthy programs encompass deep brain stimulation, epilepsy surgery, and functional and molecular neuroimaging. UAB boasts significant NIH Center and infrastructure awards, further solidifying our standing as a leading research institution in neurological sciences.

Opportunities : With active participation in initiatives such as NeuroNEXT and StrokeNet, UAB offers a vibrant environment for translational research. Additionally, our robust portfolio in neurorehabilitation research, supported by prestigious grants from NIH, CDC, and NIDILRR, underscores our commitment to advancing clinical outcomes in neurological disorders.
